An interesting bag this week you could say. Just a bunch of odd stuff.

For DSiWare there’s American Popstar: Road to Celebrity and Photo Clock, another piece of software of dubious usefullness honestly. At least it’s cheap, but really these should still be $1 and not $2.

For WiiWare there’s BUBBLE BOBBLE Plus! (which is pretty awesome looking) and Adventure Island: The Beginning, which… is just odd! Get this, NOT JUST a mini game compilation?

Then for the VC we have Clay Fighter (Genesis version). That was such an odd title. Pre-rendered sprites in the form of photographed clay models. This whole week is just odd ok?

This week marks the 300th title to be added to the Virtual Console Library. At this point there’s a lot of fair titles, and a great selection of must have titles. But why stop there? This week the VC gets The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask from the N64 days. A sequel to what many consider the best game of all time, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask is considered by some to be even better than it predessor. Personally I like Ocarina of Time more but Majora’s Mask is still an awesome title which I highly recommend.

DSi Ware gets a nice title for it’s library as well, Art Style: PiCTOBiTS from Nintendo. A puzzle game in which you reveal NES sprites on the top screen. I’m not exactly sure of the mechanics, but it looks worthy of checking out.

On the WiiWare front two new titles appear. One is a striaght forward Chess game from Agetec, and the other is Crystal Defenders R2 from Square Enix. Both look solid. Unfotunately I don’t think the chess game has an online mode, which is a sort of a bummer. It could have used the Wii Connect 24 features of the Wii execellently for matches between friends.

Team Fortress 2 / Smash Bros 64 Mash up ROCKS

O.O I am in shock. This is just pure awesome ok? That is all.

A tad late this week. I appologize, however you didn’t miss much. Unfortunately… no Mario Calculator Tsk! However the VC and DSiWare services aren’t too bad this week.

This week each service gets it’s own little title. DSiWare comes forward with Real Soccer 2009. Actually, this one looks pretty good for a portable soccer game.

For WiiWare, a game called Family Pirate Party. Which seems to be some sort of Mario Party type board game but with pirates, Arrr!

And for the VC Galaxy Force II for the Sega Genesis returns for hot space shooter action.

More details inside. I want my Mario Calc ok Nintendo? You can’t tease me with the Animal Crossing one and get away with it.

The Punch-Out!! Website is Awesome

The new Punch-Out!! for Wii is coming down the line and will be available in just 10 days. Meanwhile you can check out the snazzy, and quite frankly awesome, website for the game. My god, is that coach telling me to join Club Nintendo? Win.

Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! has remained one of my favorite titles over the years, and I like that they’ve brought back a lot of the over the top, stereotypical characters (sans Mike Tyson of course). They even have Piston Honda! Although they’ve modified his name a little so it’s now Piston HondO. Von Kaiser from Germany, Glass Joe from France. Awesome.

I haven’t played the new Punch-Out!! yet of course, but it’s looking great (Hey Nintendo, send me a copy please). It’s a good sign when a Wii game has controls for both motion controls (including balance board if you have one) and NES-Style buttons.

Color me excited.

Red Steel 2 Trailer Shows Promise

Remember Red Steel? Yeah, it was the first Wii game ever shown actually. It also had some major issues. It was a game that was just on the edge of being something great. However pressure to be a launch title pushed the game out too fast and all that potential never paid off, although we did get some hilarious bugs. It also didn’t help that the Wii remote wasn’t technically capable of what everyone expected. However with Motion Plus arriving soon, all those fantasies of sword duels become possible.

So not too much is shown in the Red Steel 2 trailer, but it’s again showing promise. Only this time the game has a longer development period and the hardware is there to make Red Steel what it was supposed to be in the first place. I occasionally bring up Red Steel 2, mentioning that Ubisoft really has something great potential in this title, BUT THEY HAVE TO TAKE THEIR TIME. We… Shall… See… I hope it exceeds my expectations.

There’s something wrong with me I think. I carry around my DS with all the time, and sometimes I need a calculator because it’s embarrassing to count on your fingers in the store, even if you do it in binary. Yet someone I think it wouldn’t be quite so embarrassing if I could use my DS as a calculator, especially an 8-Bit Mario themed calculator! At this point in time if you’re using an overly complex small computer for something a 25 cent pocket calc can do you’re cool ok?! Unfortunately I don’t get my wish quite yet. I’ll have to make do with the Animal Crossing Calculator and the Animal Crossing Clock that came out for DSi today.

For WiiWare Gammick Entertainment brings us Penguins & Friends - Hey! That’s My Fish! Which is some sort of hex puzzle game.

Then on the VC we get Tower Toppler for Commmodore 64. That’s one I havene’t really experienced, but the decription is funny.

Seriously, I want the 8-Bit Mario Calculator. This AC stuff is a tease. And is there really any reason for another clock? The Main Menu already has a clock! Bah! There better be some easter eggs in these things.
