Are We Doing Enough to Prepare for the Apocalyptic World of Tommorrow?

Are Violent Video Games Adequately Preparing Children For The Apocalypse?

Here’s something that crosses my mind on occasion. Yeah practicing zombie horde fighting formations and ammo conservation skills are important to learn for the future. But is that enough? The Onion News network discusses this very issue in the video above.

What can we do as designers and gamers to improve our training for the inevitable world of tomorrow? I propose we start by introducing into our games more brutal and primitive weapons. Because how can we be sure that there’s going to be enough ammo after the bombs drop? However we can certainly be sure there’s going to be lots of twisted and radioactive metal laying around to make things like spears. Should we be introducing the idea of cannibalism into our digital worlds? I think we’d be foolish not to. What are your solutions to this very important problem?

Virtual Console 113 + WiiWare Update 40

Exciting news in the land of digital downloads on the Wii! On WiiWare there’s a arcadey FPS game from Hudson which looks pretty cool called OnSlaught. But… but… the VC annoucement overshadows anything ok? It just does. I mean, Onsalught looks neat and all but… ok. Let me explain.

Over a year ago we got word that Commodore 64 games were coming to the VC, we made a glowing post about it and the comment section got filled with nostaliga. Well they finally showed up. Three of them this week. The Last Ninja, International Karate, and Pitstop II.

Now I may have to warn some of you younger gamers… it’s possible these games aren’t your cup of tea. The C64 launched in the US 3 full years before the NES did. The C64 was awesome. Enough said.

You see, this week on the VC Life Force was added to the virtual collection of classics. Life Force is of course a space shooter, and a good one at that. That part is easy. Now for WiiWare Yukes Company of America brings us Evasive Space, which is sort of like a space shooter but it doesn’t involve any shooting. Your goal is to avoid everything. Simple concept, but it looks like it’s pretty good. Might be worth checking out!

No matter what you’ve got planned for Valentine’s Day, the latest additions to the Wii Shop Channel have what it takes to get your heart pounding. A new WiiWare game transports you to an eerie high school haunted by supernatural villains, while a classic Virtual Console title puts you in the heat of battle as a heroic mercenary. And remember: Just because these games are made for single-player action doesn’t mean you can’t share the excitement with your special someone… … …

Virtual Console 109 + WiiWare 36 Update + Virtual Console 110 + WiiWare 37 Update … wait a minute.

There are times when you find yourself in an embarrassing position and you have to figure a way out of it… then you fail at that but then you find yourself in embarrassing position and you have to figure a way out of it… and then you get an idea.

This weeks titles for WiiWare are Niki - Rock ‘n’ Ball, Snowboard Riot, and LONPOS (some sort of board game from Nintendo?). Wonder Boy in Monster Land for the Sega Master System and Sonic Chaos, also for the Sega Master System.

You see… today is groundhogs day… and that lets me cover up my mistake of forgetting last weeks VC update completely! AWESOME. What? Clever right? More info inside!
