Well it’s another week of …. wait a minute. It’s another week of awesome. What the hell is going on around here?
For the WiiWare service Strong Bad Episode 3: Baddest of the Bands and Art Style: ROTOHEX join the party. Then over in VC land Earthworm Jim appears in his Genesis form.
Wait a minute… Earthworm Jim?! … it is! It is Earthworm Jim! For those of you who don’t know this game was, and still is, totally awesome. The art style and animation is great and basically it’s just an insane and creative platformer with a good sense of humor. So while the WiiWare update looks pretty darn good, Earthworm Jim is a special stand-out in my mind. Can’t go wrong once again this week.
This is sort of amazing right? Once again the digital download services are looking pretty sharp. This week for the WiiWare service we’re treated to Tetris Party and The Incredible Maze. Then over on the Virtual Console island I can see Digital Champ Battle Boxing for TurboGrafx16 and… excuse me while I clear my throat for this one…. GRADIUS II GOFER NO YABOU for the TurboGrafx16 CD-ROM.
Tetris Party is what you think. It’s Tetris! But it’s got a couple different things going on with it like 6 player online play and… uhhh Wii Balance Board control???? Fairly sure that’s a joke mode.
Anyway! Take a look inside for more complete details! (Continue)
This is an amazing week both the Virtual Console and WiiWare services. You basically cannot go wrong this week. Let’s start with the new-new titles.
For WiiWare we have the very cool game, World of Goo (a physics based puzzle game), and Art Style: CUBELLO (A mix of shooter and puzzle game mechanics, continuation of Nintendo’s Art Style series)
Then on the Virtual Console we have Secret of Mana for the SNES and Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition for the Sega Genesis.
This is what we like to see on the service. New and interesting titles and old classics. More details inside! (Continue)
Do you want a Bowling game on Wii that kicks the SHIT out of Wii Sports Bowling? Well too bad, while I havn’t played it I have a sense that Midnight Bowling is not your game. (feel free to correct me if you find otherwise). However! If you like what looks to be a solid enough 2D puzzle game MadStone might be worth looking into.
That said, this week I’d more readily recommend Mario Golf for the N64 and, perhaps to a greater degree, Shining Force II for the Sega Genesis.
Don’t know what I’m talking about? Well click on inside for more details. (Continue)
DSi wasn’t the only thing shown at TGS by Nintendo. There’s also a batch of good news for Wii owners as well.
First there’s a incoming storage solution for the Wii. VC and WiiWare games will soon be able to be downloaded directly to an SD card. That means if you already have a 2GB SD card for the Wii, like I do, then you don’t have to pay a penny. The change will be implemented in a coming firmware update. I assume that you will also be able to run the software off the SD card as well.
I’m speculating here, but I suspect that you will soon be able to transfer pictures on the Wii to SD card so that the fancy new DSi will be able to directly view them as well.
A Wii consoles will come with a pre-installed video that will show you how everything works on the Wii, a nice convenience.
Nintendo announced a new line of re-release Cube games called “Enjoy with Wii selection” (translation). These will be discounted classic Cube games that have been adapted for the Wii. The first title that will be released in this line will be Pikmin. Probably a good idea since the Cube has some great games that a lot of people missed out on.
There’s a slew of new games announced, and you can see a lot of them in the video at the top. Some personal highlights include Sin and Punishment 2, Punch-Out!!, and Monster Hunter 3 just to name a few. Nintendo has also decided to bunch the Wii Speak add-on with Animal Crossing: City Folk
What do you think of this lineup so far? It looks like a bunch of quality Wii specific games are finally coming out the pipeline. The announcement of a new Punch-Out!! for Wii really have me excited. If you haven’t already take a look at the video where you can see it in action for a few glorious seconds. *STAMP OF APPROVAL*
Last night at TGS Nintendo showed off the new DS model, the DSi. So what makes the DSi different from the DSLite? Well…
- GBA Slot has been removed
- SD card slot has been added
- Internal memory has been added
- Both screens have been enlarged to 3.25′’
- Speakers have been improved
- Opera web browser is now standard
- Camera has been added
- Pictures can be saved to the SD card slot and viewed in the Wii or DSi
- Will use a new DSi store, DSi will connect directly to the store, not through the Wii
- (JAPAN ONLY) Owners get 1000 free points to spend in the store (if they connect by March 2010)
- DS Download station gets an upgrade, now “Nintendo Zone”
- Pictures can be edited on the directly on the DSi
- DSi supports AAC audio file playback
- (Unconfirmed) Will be able to play VC games
- Estimated price is $180, will be released in Japan this year. Outside of Japan will follow in 2009
The DSi is slightly larger, and slightly lighter than the DSLite. It supports DS games fully and special software can be made for it to take advantage of its new features like the built in camera.
This is not entirely clear, but it’s my impression that some DSi games will infact play in a normal DS, but only without the extra features. Again, this is not spelled out anywhere that I can find.
Here’s a video montage of new DS games coming…
I see a new WarioWare game that seems to mix in a little Mario Paint, a new Mario & Luigi game, a new Phoenix Wright, and a new Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals (which also interfaces with the Wii one just by the way) as well as some other stuff that looks interesting but I can’t name.
Looks good. But about the DSi. We will have to wait till 2009 to get it here in the US, but what do you think? Is it something that you think will have you switching up to the DSi, or do you think you’ll be fine with what you have now? Personally I like the new changes, but I’m not sure if I would immediately get a DSi. However if you don’t have a DS, I would recommend waiting for the DSi. So I like it, but I’m holding off. Perhaps that will change as the North American release get closer though.
