Pac-Man on the Runway

Ok. I’m a sucker for video game related stuff showing up in places that are typically not considered related to video games. But this is a little … too bizzare. So fashion shows ok? Now… fashion shows in which the models wear Pac-Man and Ghost shapped helmets and walk down a runway which has yellow dots painted on the ground…

You can thank the designer Gile Deacon for this just by the way. He was apparently named British Designer of the Year in 2007.

Virtual Console 93 + WiiWare 20 Update

Super Turican 2Bomberman BlastOrbient

Wow. Some really cool stuff this week for the Virtual Console and WiiWare services.

First up is Super Turrican 2 for the SNES (awesome). Then for WiiWare we have Bomberman Blast, an online multiplayer version of Bomberman (awesome). Then we have Nintedno’s first entry on their own service. It’s a game called Art Style: ORBIENT, which seems to involve controlling a star and using its gravity to suck up smaller stars while avoids baddies like black holes. Interesting, although I think I’m just going to call it Orbient and not Art Style Orbient.

More details inside as always!

New DS on the way?

New DS design rumors are nothing new. They’ve been floating around ever since the DS came out, and sure enough fairly soon after the DS launched we got super retina burning DS Lite. Recently those types of rumors have been popping up again except this time they’re more geared toward a DS with multimedia capabilities. There’s even talk that it would include a built in camera.

True? I honestly can’t say. But it does line out with Nintendo’s coming media event in October. A built in camera and media playback would seem to indicate a built in storage capacity, probably on a flash chip. And if you’re going to have such a thing, why not have some VC style emulation. And if you’re going to have emulation, why not have your current VC titles that you’ve downloaded on the Wii transferable? And what about that rumored camera? Could you not use that for a type of motion control?

I’m just speculating of course, just like everyone else. We don’t even know if this is a new DS or a successor to the DS or even if this thing is really going to be announced or not. Although, if Nintendo’s recent lack of first party titles on the DS is anything to go by, it’s a fairly good indication that they’ve switched their development teams over to work on software somewhere else.  In Japan the DS has been steadily losing ground to the new PSP redesign, perhaps this is the response.

What do you think? Would you be interested in such a thing?

Virtual Console 92 + WiiWare 19 Update

Mega Man 9

In honor of Mega Man 9 being released today, and because Mega Man 9 is both a classic title and a brand new game, I am going to combine both the Virtual Console and WiiWare updates into one listing. Can you guess which one of these games I want you to buy?

Actually, the entire selection is pretty good. As for the new titles on WiiWare the additions are Mega Man 9 (obviously) and PLÄTTCHEN twist ‘n’ paint (A Shooter/Puzzle game???). And for the classic… “Old” games we’ve got Super Dodge Ball for the NES and Vectorman for the Sega Genesis.

AMAZING update. I was expecting the highlight to purely be Mega Man 9, but no! Vectorman AND Super Dodge Ball? … Also PLÄTTCHEN twist ‘n’ paint… whatever the hell that is! Don’t be confused by that top image of the Mega Man 9 box, the game is bought online, and not in a brick and mortar store. That’s just the completely awesome press kit the guys at Capcom put together. I want one badly.

Also, what do you think of combining both the WiiWare and VC updates into one location? Comments are welcome!

Virtual Console Update 91

What do you prefer in your games? Quantity or quality? Well with the VC update this week you get QUALITY. That’s right freaking Megaman 2. A reminder that the brand new Megaman 9 is on its way.

While I loves me some Megaman 2, I think the first and third entry in the series are my favorites. That said, I still heavily recommend Megaman 2.

WiiWare Update 18

This week the WiiWare library is expanded by two. And get this… it’s getting expanded with what looks like competent games. Unbelievable right?

Those games are Strong Bad Episode 2: Strong Badia the Free and Potpourrii, which is some sort of puzzle game. (we all understand that any point and click adventure game takes priority over any puzzle game, right? Good.)

Virtual Console Update 90

This week is Hudson Entertainment shooter week. Which is actually sort of cool, because I can speak from experience that Hudson makes some kick-ass shooter games. Heck, there’s even an import shooter title this week. Hot dog!

The additions are Final Soldier for the TurboGrafx16, and Cho Aniki (import) for TurboGrafx16… CD-ROM!

WiiWare Update 17

Groovin' Blocks

This week the WiiWare service adds Groovin’ Blocks to its collection. Which is…

“A music-based game like no other, Groovin’ Blocks adds innovative musical game play to an addictive action/puzzle game foundation. Play to the rhythm of the music to increase your score, and try to hit “Superbeats” to double your multiplier. Go for the high score in each of the 27 stages as you collect stars to unlock 15 levels of power-ups. Groovin’ Blocks features three skill levels, from the accessible Casual to the fiendish Hard mode. Play with your friends in co-op mode or against them head-to-head. Head-to-head brings it up a notch as the power-ups now become attacks on your opponent. Play head-to-head with people of all skill levels using a golf-style handicapping system.”

That’s actually sort of interesting. Nice job Empty Clip Studios.

Virtual Console Update 89

This is one of those celebration updates. Yes it’s true! No more playing Clu Clu Land on your NES or E-Card Reader!

Also there’s a little title called Super Mario RPG for the SNES.

Seriously though skip over Clu Clu Land, and make a freaking bee-line for Super Mario RPG. It’s one of my favorite games of all time and it’s well worth the 800 points. Even if you’ve somehow never heard of it before I urge you to get it. Even if you don’t like RPGs get it. I don’t like most RPG games and I love Super Mario RPG. It’s got a little action to the combat and is fun as hell to play.

This is up there right next to the Super Metroid release on the VC.

GO GET IT NOW SUCKA

WiiWare Update 16

I actually sort of enjoy this kind of update. You know, the kind where stuff like Beer Pong isn’t involved. The kind where someone actually took the time to make something interesting. But what a suprise, it’s from Hudson Entertainment!

While My Aquarium isn’t exactly a hardcore game, or really much of a game at all, it’s sort of interesting and amusing. It’s just a virtual salt aquarium for your Wii, with some extra features like terrorizing the fish by tapping the glass with the Wii Remote for example.

Sounds like a blast right? Well guess what? The price is right. At 500 points that’s an acceptable price to turn your TV into something as complex and hard to maintain and as aquarium. More detailing inside
