WiiWare Update 7

Oh god. Magnetica. Sure it’s a pretty unique and different puzzle game, and I understand that such a thing has to be on every single platform at least once. But please! I’m begging you Nintendo! Why must you do this to me! My mother will be all over this if she finds out!

You see that little man in the middle? Sitting in the ball launcher? That’s a Mii. That means my fate is sealed. But woah! This version DOES support up to 4 players using the Wii Remotes mouse-like pointing system. Interesting.

Virtual Console Update 80

Looks like it’s SNK week again. SNK and fighting games. They sure do love thei- … BAH! We all know SNK loves to make fighting games! And if you didn’t, you do now! So here’s another SNK fighting game!

Do I really need to say this? This week’s VC update includes Fatal Fury 2 for the NEOGEO.

Sorry, but every time there’s a big round number (in this case 80) I feel like it’s more than enough reason to post Earthbound. I just want to order everyone to go download it so bad! More details inside.

Megaman 9 Coming to WiiWare…Retro Style!

(images courtesy of www.pulsastart.es & vampirefreaks.com, respectively)
The newest issue of Nintendo Power has a feature on the newest installment of the Megaman series, Megaman 9. Along with an interview with the series’ creator, there are some screenshots of the game featured. The best part is, Keiji Inafune has decided to take the game back to its roots, as the screenshots show a decidedly retro Blue Bomber.
I, for one, am extremely excited about this. Even though I never had an NES, I started Megaman with Megaman X, and played the earlier ones later. To say the least, Megaman is one of the series that I have been wishing would take a trip back to the ’80s, or at least the ’90s, in lieu of its recent spinoffs.
Screenshots, along with a more detailed writeup, can be found at Kotaku.

WiiWare Update 6

Check it out. It’s a WiiWare title from High Voltage Entertainment, a studio that looks like it’s going to actually try on the Wii platform, so this title, which looks pretty cool, suddenly becomes worth looking at even if you haven’t see video of it yet.

The game is sort of an arcade shooter and sort of a racing game combined with a twist of the old arcade game Tempest. Check out videos of it on the web or soon on the Nintendo Channel. More details inside.

Virtual Console Update 79

Time for the VC library update again. I sure do get a lot of mileage of these things. In any case, this week’s update includes the classic Alex Kidd in Miracle Word for Sega Master System, and BURNING FIGHT for NEOGEO.

Wii Firmware Update 3.3

Right at the stroke of mid-night Nintendo released a new Wii firmware, version 3.3.

Listed in the message that informs you of the new software update it lists a single change which is “With this update, you can now move a Mii from the Mii Plaza to the Mii Parade in the Mii Channel” (and then instructions on how to do so). I believe this basically lets you store more than 200 personal Mii, but you will lose the birthday information and other such details. There’s probably other stuff hidden there someplace as always. If you find a change please post it in the comments and we’ll add it to a list.

Also, this update warns “Because unauthorized modifications to save files may impair game play or the Wii console, updating to the Wii Menu cersion 3.3 will also check for and automatically remove such save files”

Vague, but a warning. Console modders be warned

Also the Nintendo Channel has had its rating database put into full effect and it works extremely well. And yes, I have M rated games that appear on the list now, which some people were complaining were absent from the list before.

WiiWare Update 5

Another week, another new game or two for the WiiWare download service.

First up is Cocoto Fishing Master which, as you can guess, is a fishing game that using the Wii remote and nunchuku motion sensing abilities.

Next up is a game called Block Breaker Deluxe which strange enough has an ESRB rating with “Mild Suggestive Themes”. I can only assume the blocks are penors or something. Or maybe there’s long lines of blocks sliding into openings like Tetris… … … … …

Virtual Console Update 78

I guess WiiWare is going to eat up the VC releases from now on. Sort of a shame in a way, although I guess I prefer new games to old ones I can get physical copies of else where. There’s exception of course, but in general I guess it’s true.

Anyway, this weeks single VC addition is a NEOGEO game called SAMURAI SHODOWN which the first title of the series of Fighting games.  SNK knows sure likes its fighting games, and so do a lot of people!

Atari’s Alone In The Dark

You know, this actually looks like it could be really cool on Wii. Interaction is what the platform is all about and unfortunately not many games, especially 3rd party games, have truly used the Wii Remote to its full potential, or even correctly for that matter. I sort of get a Red Steel vibe from this, which is actually good! Let’s hope it doesn’t turn out like Red Steel though! Atari, if you pull this off I’ll salute you. Also Ubisoft? Take your time with Red Steel 2! I will continue to take every opportunity I get to remind you to do this!

WiiWare Update 4

Ahhh now here’s something that confuses me. It’s a PokémonWiiWare title, but I have no idea what you’re supposed to do in it. It’s called My Pokémon Ranch and it costs you $10.

I get the impressions that you can transfer the Pokémon you’ve caught in the Pokemon DS games and have them show up on this sort of … Pokémon… farm… thing where you can use your Mii and watch them? I don’t know, I’m guessing that they’re used in some sort of mini game and that there’s probably an overall objective somewhere. I haven’t played Pokémon in years so the appeal is sort of lost on me.

Maybe you PokémonTrainers can figure it out from the press release or something (inside). Hop to it, you Poké- … guys!
