Nintendo Power Poster Supplement

For me it seemed to me that one of the biggest highlights of getting a Nintendo Power in the mail was the poster that would come inside. Usually it was themed to the cover story or something, but it was usually a pretty nice poster. I’ve got my bland walls covered with all sorts of them which I’ve occasionally cycled out.

However, ever since Future US Inc. took over the Nintendo Power magazine there’s been something that always bugged me. You guessed it, the posters. They would always be something lame (with the exception of the Contra 4 one they put out early on), not matching the cover story. It was a major let down to see something like No More Heroes on the cover, open the magazine up and find a small ad-poster for Godzilla. Sometimes there was no poster at all. I even started writing Future complaining about this.

Well today I consider this months issue compensation and an apology. Because as a supplement this month there came a pack of nice posters. 40 of them, ranging from 1st party to 3rd party games. They’re even double sided, which is both cool and not cool because now I have to go see if I can find an extra magazine someplace so I can display both sides of the ones I like.

I don’t actually know if you can get these off the magazine rack. If you see some please let me know!

Update: In my joy I somehow overlooked the note that came with the posters. Apparently when I renewed my subscription I was supposed to get a Phantom Hourglass strategy guide (which I don’t want). Apparently they ran out of them and this is what they’re sending out instead. Now I kind of feel like an ass!

WiiWare Update 2

WiiWare, So far in your short time with us you’ve shown promise.

This week it looks like we’re getting Dr. Mario Online RX, and Family Table Tennis.

I might just do and download the Dr. Mario remake right now, but Family Table Tennis? Who knows, but it’s 500 Wii Points, so even if you hate it you can breath a sigh of relief that you didn’t pay $40 for it at the store. Maybe they did table tennis right and nailed the controls. It’s always hard to tell. I do know that the Dr. Mario music is stuck in my head again though. More detail inside.

Virtual Console Update 75

Looks like we’re starting to get back to a standard number for VC releases.

Two new VC games this week, City Connection for SNES, and Metal Slug for the NEOGEO.

While I love Metal Slug to death 900 Wii Points is a little steep when you can go get the entire Metal Slug collection on Wii on a disk for about $20 (maybe even less!). If you don’t feel like doing that though Metal Slug is awesome and I recommend it. City Connection? Seen it, but never played it. Full details inside.

NASCAR and Indy 500- Wii Fit Version

We all knew this, but apparently Nintendo is doing pretty good because what you see above are the Wii Fir Nascar and Indy 500 cars. Sort of bizzare. I mean, Wii Fit doesn’t have much to do with racing. Well, motor racing anyway. I mean, it’s not like the Donkey Kong Monster Truck. Donkey Kong likes to break things. Makes sense. Wouldn’t a Mario Kart car make a better fit?

*Reggie appears, stares*
… I mean. uhhhh. This is awesome! Wii Fit the NASCAR and Indy 500 cars for the win! The driver for the NASCAR car is two-time Daytona 500 winner Sterling Marlin, and the Indy 500 car is driven by Alex Lloyd, a new driver.

WiiWare Update 1

Well I guess this is the first WiiWare update which consists of two titles. Star Soldier R and Critter Round Up.

Man. Critter Round Up looks like a blast doesn’t it? Out of these two I’m going to blindly recommend Star Soldier R. Mind you I’ve played precisely none of these but hey.

Prices and details are inside.

Virtual Console Update 74

Well last week the VC took a break because of WiiWare launching. This week it’s still hung over. One title?

SkyKid for the NES.

Now the question is should I start grouping these in with the WiiWare updates or should I have them seperate? This week I’ll have it seperate.

WiiWare Launches

When the Nintendo Channel showed up and mentioned the upcoming WiiWare service you knew it had to be showing up soon. Now not quite a week later it’s here knocking on our firewalls.

So what’s the service offering immediately? A total of 6 titles.
FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: My Life as a King (1,500 Points)
LostWinds (1,000 Points)
Defend your Castle (500 Points)
Pop (700 Points)
V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack (700 Points)
TV Show King (1,000 Points)

I’m excited for this service. A lot of these titles seem to surpass a lot of 3rd party retail store tiles in every way possible. Which says a lot about the crap that gets shoveled. Also the Virtual Console is not updating this week.

So what do you think of this new service and the games it’s offering? Full details inside

Nintendo Channel Launches (with video)

Early early this morning the “Nintendo Channel” hit. I’ve just installed the channel and I’m taking a look at what the Channel offers. When you start it up you have the option to allow commercial messages to be sent to the Wii. This seems to also involve being able send your gave data to Nintendo automatically where apparently they can look at your game play trends and abilities which are used in the channel.

Download a tour video
Youtube | Download (30MB)

When you first load the channel you’re greated with a video that has a bit of game play trailers for upcoming services and games. Wii Fit, Mario Kart, WiiWare channel, ect. It also has 3rd party game videos. The video quality is very good as well.

Here are the features I can find.
View game trailers for Wii, DS, Wii Channels, Virtual Console, and special videos like interviews.
Download DS game demos to the DS.
Search for new games by New Releases, Category, or Name.
Recommend titles to a friend (games you have played for over an hour.)
You can even order games from the channel. (loads the ordering page in the Internet Channel for you)

Will It Blend?

The Will It Blend videos are the best advertisements for a blender ever and I recommend that you take a look the rest of them because they’re entertaining as hell. These videos ask the question “Will It Blend?” and promptly find the answer through the scientific method of trying stuff.

This month it is asked if a strapless Wii Remote will blend. The answer only uncovers the truth for strapless Wii Remotes through. We all know the new wrist straps are invincible.

Wii Fit, The Final Blow to My World

I know I occasionally bring this subject up, but my mom even touching a video game used to completely rock my world. Nintendo knows what it’s doing. They love saying things like “expanded market” and “casual gamer” for a couple years now starting back before the launch of the DS. This also means Nintendo knows exactly what it’s doing to me. THEY DO IT TO ME ON PURPOSE.

So what was the first sign of the cascading crumble of my world? Well first it was when my mother, strangely enough the same mother who I could never get to play Super Mario Bros. with me as a kid no matter what I did, bought her own DS… on her own. Not only that but she owns more DS games than me now. Most of them are Touch Generations games but she also has a lot of more ‘traditional’ games. She even has copies of games I have because “she didn’t want to share a card”. It’s slowly evolved into more than Touch Generation games. First console stuff she touched was DDR for a tad bit, now she occasionally visits the Wii and spends an hour or two playing around with the free Check Mii Out and News channels. Maybe Wii Sports now and then but mostly channel stuff.

I can tell that Wii Fit is going to be the final blow. Danger sign #1: My mom practically pre-orders it. Danger sign #2: My brother’s wife talks about it to friends. Danger sign #3: My dad who never really thought much of Mario Kart seems to enjoy watching the online races. ALL HOPE IS LOST SIGN: My grandmother asks about how to get a Wii and is interested in Wii Fit, finds out I have a Wii, plays it, loves it. World is over.

Whenever one of these situations occurs I see a brief flash of Reggie “I told you bitch, I not only own you, but I own your whole family.”
