Wow. This is the 50th Virtual Console update. And it’s strange. The one game I’ve played on here is Vegas Stakes because I used to rent it on occasion and I have no idea why. I’m sure Ecco Jr. is much better.
In anycase, the new titles this week are Double Dribble for the NES, Vegas Stakes for SNES, and Ecco Jr. for the Sega Genesis.

Today is November 19th, 2007 and exactly one year ago is the day the Wii launched in the US.
I can recall the excutiatingly long firmware update that took place as a couple of friends and I sat around reading manuals while the connection to the NOA server creeped along. “You should have just put in Wii Sports” they said. That sound… that twinkly beeping sound… *shudder* … Luckily after that the servers stopped being raped so hard and firmware updates became something to look forward to.
Unfortunately I also remember when I rented Far Cry for Wii and remarking how, despite its unripe controls and humorous glitches, Red Steel was leaps and bounds ahead of it. (Far Cry is about $12 used now and still overpriced. Avoid it like the plauge)
But, regardless of the initial run of 3rd party shovleware, I’ve enjoyed you little Wii. We’ve seen some surprise free channels launch, and an incredible library of games develop for a first year. To date I’ve bought about 9 Wii games, not including VC titles, regret none of them, and have rented at least that many. Three of those buys being Mario, Metroid, and Zelda games. I can’t ask for anything more.
So here’s to you Wii. Congratulations on your burst out of the gate, with nearly 14 million units sold. But equally, congratulations on actually getting my mother to touch a console controller, let alone play a game and make a Mii.
May the next year being half as great.

Oh hey, some classics in here this week. First there’s Wrecking Crew for the NES, a semi-lost classic. Then there’s Sonic 3D Blast for the Genesis. And finally there’s Super Air Zonk for the TurboGrafx16 CD-ROM.
I’ll check to see how big that last one is.

With something as large as Mario Galaxy releasing today I’m not really surprised this batch of games isn’t super killer. But it’s not terrible either, Axelay sounds cool, although I’ve never played it. Besides, last week you got Super Mario 3 to tide you over till now.
This week’s update includes Volley Ball for the NES, AXELAY for the SNES, and Blue’s Journey for the NEOGEO. (hey another NEOGEO game).
