Spread Firefox, Get Stuff

Get Firefox
Firefox is having an amusing campaign/contest to help promote itself. You’ll have to check the site for the official rules, but the basic idea is to publically display a giant Firefox logo somewhere. The prize is a Macbook Pro, and the 3 runner-ups get a Wii console.
Even if you don’t want in on this you should at least try Firefox if you’re using IE. There’s a reason (couple hundred actually) why I have a ‘Get Firefox’ on the page! You can get more details at the contest website www.operationfirefox.com

Buy Zack & Wiki

Zack and Wiki
If you follow game news you’ve probably at least heard of this game and it’s “Buy Zack & Wiki Campaign”. If not, allow me to say “Go buy Zack & Wiki!”. If you’re the person who is sick of hearing this and doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about all me to explain.
Zack & Wiki is part of an old and semi-lost game genre that we used to call point and click adventure games.  There used to be lots of these types of games but in more recent history they’ve become a rarity. In these games you typically would ‘point and click’ with a cursor to tell the character where to go in order to solve puzzles.
Zack & Wiki works the same way with the Wii Remote but the unique part is that the gameplay has been extended to use the remote to go physical interactions in the world instead of the character automatically doing them. This is something that can’t be done with a mouse. So let me put this in bold text…
This is a 3rd party game that actually takes advantage of the Wii
That’s why there’s a buy campaign for this game. If this game sells enough it will encourage developers to make more unique games that take advantage of the Wii system instead of shovelware and half-assed ports.
There’s concern that game will not sell without help. Here’s the problems. The game has a terrible name (Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure), it’s a basically unknown genre, and its cartoon ‘kiddy’ style may turn off ‘hardcore’ gamers.
Now you may say “But you haven’t played the game.” or “You’re just on the hype train.”. Just because I haven’t previously mentioned it on the front page here doesn’t mean I haven’t been following this game for months, and I have. From what I’ve seen in gameplay videos, I’m convinced. So it’s my duty as a gamer/game site owner to do what I can to get the word out. If you still don’t believe me I’m going to get a copy ASAP so I can 100% confirm it’s awesomeness for everyone here.
Pick this game up if you can or try to get it for the holidays somehow. It’s price is $10 cheaper than a normal ($39.95)

Hullbreach Online Free MMORPG for Wii/Opera

Hullbreach Online Free Space MMORPG for Wii

If you remember Daniel Gump, he made those cool Wii Remote Demos a few months ago. Well now he’s back with something a bit more fun. If you’ve been following his updates in our forums he’s been working on a free space based MMORPG that will run on Wii and PC Opera Browsers.

For the Wii the game can take Wii remote button input as well as USB keyboard support. This is a public beta, so you might run into some bugs (which you should report) and remember that this is work in progress. Inside I’ll provide a quick basic walk though to get you started.

You can sign up for a free account as of today at HullbreachOnline.Com

If you don’t have a Wii or want to use a PC it is recommended that you download Opera as Internet Explorer and FireFox will have some issues.

Smash Officially Delayed for US

Sonic in Brawl
Super Smash Bros. Brawl has officially been pushed back till February 10th, 2008 for the North Americas. Believe it or not I’m actually sort of happy about this news. Now I might be able to afford some of the other games Reggie is forcing me to get this year. Plus I’m always happy when developers have the balls to delay a game instead of rushing it out.

Nintendo MEGATON. Read it all, nearly every line is gold.

I wasn’t expecting anything big from this conference in Japan, but I was wrong. TONS of stuff. “Drop the bomb” picture worthy… and at 3 AM (bed time) for me. There’s even some cool stuff I was hoping was going to happen back when Wii and called Revolution. Alright, let’s get started. (my favorites in italics)
  • New game:Fire Emblem DS
  • New game:Dragon Quest IX
  • Mario Kart Wii comes with Wii Wheel (knew that I think)
  • Mario Kart Wii includes motorcycles (that’s new!)
  • New game: Super Mario Stadium ( a baseball game )
  • Monster Hunter 3 Wii
  • BomberMan
  • Some WiiWare titles announced. Include:
  • Pokemon Bokujou
  • Star Soldier R
  • Mojipittan Wii (word puzle game)
  • Doctor Mario
  • Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals
  • The Young King
  • Promised Land
  • Everyone Votes Channel going to be expanded into a game rating program
  • Wii and DS demos to be made downloadable
  • Nintendo is setting up an online service center to help people get online and even a service for installing network equipment.
  • Sonic is confirmed for Brawl, new trailer shown
  • Maybe some sort of online co-op for Brawl
Check SmashBros.Com for Sonic updates and some new videos!
These announcements alone are awesome, but it also has some possible implications. Some of those Wii Ware games are full length 3D or sort of MMO games. A storage solution is practically required either in a form of a SD card slow firmware update or a drive. (nothing is announced as some of this stuff doesn’t hit till next year anyway).
They’re also starting to push what they do online a LOT more. I see quite a few announced games with increasingly complex online modes.
Speaking of online, watch for a Wii firmware update later today. It’s not quite ready for the US it seems. Updates for Everybody Votes, and Opera Browser channels as well.
