If you follow game news you’ve probably at least heard of this game and it’s “Buy Zack & Wiki Campaign”. If not, allow me to say “Go buy Zack & Wiki!”. If you’re the person who is sick of hearing this and doesn’t understand what all the fuss is about all me to explain.
Zack & Wiki is part of an old and semi-lost game genre that we used to call point and click adventure games. There used to be lots of these types of games but in more recent history they’ve become a rarity. In these games you typically would ‘point and click’ with a cursor to tell the character where to go in order to solve puzzles.
Zack & Wiki works the same way with the Wii Remote but the unique part is that the gameplay has been extended to use the remote to go physical interactions in the world instead of the character automatically doing them. This is something that can’t be done with a mouse. So let me put this in bold text…
This is a 3rd party game that actually takes advantage of the Wii
That’s why there’s a buy campaign for this game. If this game sells enough it will encourage developers to make more unique games that take advantage of the Wii system instead of shovelware and half-assed ports.
There’s concern that game will not sell without help. Here’s the problems. The game has a terrible name (Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure), it’s a basically unknown genre, and its cartoon ‘kiddy’ style may turn off ‘hardcore’ gamers.
Now you may say “But you haven’t played the game.” or “You’re just on the hype train.”. Just because I haven’t previously mentioned it on the front page here doesn’t mean I haven’t been following this game for months, and I have. From what I’ve seen in gameplay videos, I’m convinced. So it’s my duty as a gamer/game site owner to do what I can to get the word out. If you still don’t believe me I’m going to get a copy ASAP so I can 100% confirm it’s awesomeness for everyone here.
Pick this game up if you can or try to get it for the holidays somehow. It’s price is $10 cheaper than a normal ($39.95)
