There you go. Hopefully interesting execlusive small developer Wii software, early 2008. Full press release inside! (Continue)

Virtual Console Update 28

It’s all about speed.

China Warrior F-Zero XStreet Fighter 2 Turbo

Most of these games are all about speed. China Warrior on the other hand, is not. I dunno. The whole game is weird. It’s like a sidescrolling fighting game that has huge sprites and the main character takes up about 1/3 of the screen. I’d say skip, unless someone else knows otherwise.

Now F-Zero X and Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting? Now those are cool, and I recommend checking them out.

Manhunt 2 rated AO by ESRB

Rockstar sure knows how to get free advertising.

The ESRB has given Manhunt 2 an Adults Only rating, instantly giving Manhunt 2 the biggest dose of free advertising ever. Here’s the problem. A lot of retailers, and more importantly Sony and Nintendo, don’t allow games with an AO rating on their platforms, making the game impossible to sell.

So what is Rockstar going to do now? Tone down the violence? Not release it? See what they can do about putting a restriction on the game to get an M rating?

It’s all pretty strange and interesting. I don’t know how horrible the violence is in this game but I’m pretty sure if it was in any other format like a movie or book no one would pay any attention. I suppose it’s different since it’s interactive, but any mentally mature gamer should be able to tell the difference between fantasy and reality. (Continue)

ManHunt 2 Banned in the UK

I thought Manhunt was some sort of hide and seek game. This is madness!

Manhunt 2 Banned

Kotaku has a great list of details on this, but basically Rockstar Games Manhunt 2 has been banned in the UK. Not restricted, flat out banned. Both the PS2 and the Wii versions were rejected by the BBFC, denying it a rating, and thus making it illegal for sale in its current form. That can change though. For example, Rockstar could resubmit a toned down version. That seems unlikely to me considering what company this game is from.

It’s hard to really blame them though. From what I’ve seen Manhunt 2 is incredibly violent and grotesque. It’s like Jack Thompson’s worst nightmare or something like that. Jack Thompson actually tried to stop Wendy’s from using those Nintendo meal toys simply because this game is on the same platform. I love it.

I’m always against flat out banning a piece of media, but this game should definitely be restricted. This is also what parental controls are for. What do you guys think?

Virtual Console Update 27

It’s a pretty alright VC update…

NES World TournamentWorld Sports CompetitionBloody Wolf

Ok… let’s see. There’s NES Open Tournament Golf for NES, World Sports Competition for TurbGrafx16, and… is that Conta? … No, no it’s not. It’s Bloody Wolf for the TurboGrafx16, which seems to be done fairly well. Not super incredible, but still not bad for 1990.

Lode Runner Golden Axe 2Sonic 2

There’s Lode Runner for the NES, Golden Axe II for the Genesis, and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, also for the Genesis.

It’s funny, I couldn’t remember what Lode Runner was so I looked it up. It turns out I used to play the PC version of it a lot when I was a kid. Usually got my ass kicked… Full details inside?

Wario Master of Disguise Ad

I’ll admit it, I’m a sucker for these varitalk ads.

Wario Master of Disguise

You’ve probably seen these before, but I love them, so take a look at this one for Wario Master of Disguise. My only dissapointment is that it doesn’t work on the phone, it’s by email only, but Wario is as always on the leading edge. He can’t put up with the low voice quality most phone lines offer!

If you like these you may like these RedSteel ads:
The Dojo of Pain (has MP3 recordings)
Talk to Sensei (has been discontinued)

Thanks to Max for sending me one of these Wario messages!

Virtual Console Update 25

Zelda II on Wii Virtual Console

We’re going back to 1988, when Zelda II: The Adventure of Link was released. I wonder if there’s going to be someone complaining about how this game is nothing like its predecessor.

But what’s this? Something I wasn’t expecting, there’s 4 games in this update. In addition to Zelda II for NES, there’s Milon’s Secret Castle also for the NES, ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotown for the Genesis, and Dead Moon for the TurboGrafx16. Four amazingly solid games, not bad.

Check inside for some tid-bits of information that I’m sure Nintendo wouldn’t mind you knowing… and a description for all the games of course!
