Virtual Console Update 11

Looks like we’ve got an early Virtual Console notice. On Monday, Feb 26 the N64 classic The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be available to download in North America. I believe Europe already has it available.

While I’m happy it’s there (because it should be) I’m actually not going to be downloading this. I’m such a party-pooper I know. But I already have the original cart and the GameCube bonus disk versions.

However, this is another game I strongly recommend you pick up if you have never beaten it. (Much like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past)

I’m going to try to keep my memories of the Water Temple repressed …uh-oh

By the way, this update also included two other games which I’ve never heard of, and I’m also updating this a day late, that should clue you in to how well known these are. They’re called Bio-Hazard Battle for Genesis, and Chew Man Fu for TurboGrafx16. I won’t even bother with the press release. It’s got Zelda, that’s all you need to know.

Virtual Console Update 10

It’s that time of the week again where Nintendo updates the Virtual Console list. My personal favorite from this weeks list is:

I remember when this game came out I was in second grade. Back then these graphics were incredible, although I still think they look great today. It was simply the game to have. I think I still even have the promotional video tape Nintendo Power sent out around here somewhere (which sort of makes me cry). Luckily the game isn’t just about graphics, it’s also got some excellent gameplay.

This update also includes The Legend of Kage for NES, New Adventure Island for TurboGrafx16, and Streets of Rage for Genesis. Full press release inside! (Continue)

Everybody Votes Channel?

A lot of people are going to wake up today and be outright confused. More than usual I should add. Why? Today Nintendo launched the ‘Everybody Votes” channel. What the heck?

Once you download the channel and perform the update it becomes clear what exactly this thing is. It’s a polling program. While that sounds entirely pointless and lame (and I’m sure some might) it’s actually a little interesting. An explanation on what’s up with lots of more pictures are inside.

Super Paper Mario gets a date

Super Paper Mario which was once slated for the now fading away GameCube has officially been given a US release date for Wii. The game was been re-worked to take use of some of the Wii remote features as well.

Personally I can’t wait for this game. It’s sort of a mix between the RPG style Paper Mario games and the classic platformers. The Paper Mario games have always been interesting to play simply because of the unique graphics and use of the paper theme, this one takes it a bit farther. The levels transform from a 2D platformer to 3D with a press of the A button and back again. Sounds awesome, I’m sold

The game is set to release April 9th, 2007 on the Wii. Full press release inside.

Virtual Console Update 9

Whoa. Nothing but NES classics this week. Among them is one of the hardest games I’ve ever played, Kid Icarus. That’s one of the strangest games for NES out there. Not only does it seems to be built on the Metroid… engine… but it also has music which sounds almost exactly the same. And just like Metroid, Kid Icarus for NES is hard!

Kid Icarus... YOU HAVE CAUSED ME FRUSTRATION!

But Kid Icarus is arguably not the highlight of this update. This week includes another perhaps not so well known NES title Ice Climbers, and a perhaps a more well known (and easier) game Kirby’s Adventure. Each is available for the equalivalant of $5. More information on the games can be found by following the little link right… about… now.

The Most Awesome Cube Controller Ever

Last week one of my friends told me about a curious GameCube accessory he had come into possession of. His friend had won an eBay auction of a batch of cheap 3rd party GameCube accessories. Most of this stuff was pretty much as expected, really generic and un-branded memory cards (seen below), controllers, and extension cables.

ZZZ

I know what you’re thinking. “So what? That may be some boring packaging but it’s certainly not update worthy, even for Bomb-Omb!” Normally you’d be right, but there’s something a little odd about some of the other items that were included with this auction. The extension cables weren’t anything special either by the way. The controllers on the other hand, now that’s what this is all about. Check this out:

Virtual Console Update 8

Muw hahahahahahaa! I haven’t updated all week! I could claim that “I’m busy”, but that’s not as close to the truth as “I’m lazy”. I have something ready for tomorrow though, so check back then! On to the VC stuff!

What have we got? Let’s see what we’ve got. Ah, the SNES classic Super Mario World. Uh-huh good. Vigilanta for TurboGrafx-16 and Gain Ground for Genesis. The respective descriptions and prices are magically placed through the following link!
