New DS on the way?

New DS design rumors are nothing new. They’ve been floating around ever since the DS came out, and sure enough fairly soon after the DS launched we got super retina burning DS Lite. Recently those types of rumors have been popping up again except this time they’re more geared toward a DS with multimedia capabilities. There’s even talk that it would include a built in camera.

True? I honestly can’t say. But it does line out with Nintendo’s coming media event in October. A built in camera and media playback would seem to indicate a built in storage capacity, probably on a flash chip. And if you’re going to have such a thing, why not have some VC style emulation. And if you’re going to have emulation, why not have your current VC titles that you’ve downloaded on the Wii transferable? And what about that rumored camera? Could you not use that for a type of motion control?

I’m just speculating of course, just like everyone else. We don’t even know if this is a new DS or a successor to the DS or even if this thing is really going to be announced or not. Although, if Nintendo’s recent lack of first party titles on the DS is anything to go by, it’s a fairly good indication that they’ve switched their development teams over to work on software somewhere else.  In Japan the DS has been steadily losing ground to the new PSP redesign, perhaps this is the response.

What do you think? Would you be interested in such a thing?

Wii remote voice input capability revealed?

CNN Money has recently put up an article on “How Wii Won” - and in it, there is a breakdown of the Wii remote and it’s internal components by cost. The breakdown also lists the features of each component. I took the liberty of pointing out these features - take note of the Purple circles that outline important information in this picture of the Wii remote voice translator chip.

Could this mean voice input really is possible through the Wii remote? This sure opens the door to some serious speculation. Why else would Nintendo add in such a (comparatively) expensive component. It costs as much as the BlueTooth chip does!

Final Fantasy XIII for Wii?

Final Fantasy XIII Logo

Thank god. I’ve been hoping for this for quite a while. Seems Square-Enix finally realized what was going on around them. The next logical question is, what systems? Xbox 360 seems inevitable, but Wii certainly should not be counted out. At least I won’t have to buy a PS3 to continue playing my favorite series.

Also, what about Versus XIII? It seems likely that Square-Enix may just keep it as a PS3 exclusive, but who knows.

Sam & Max for consoles?

Oh yes, the days of playing Zak McKraken, Maniac Mansion, and The Dig. I love adventure games, but I haven’t played any for years as they’ve seemed to have dropped off a bit in popularity and I never see a single one anymore. To me, the entire genre seemed to fade away.

Enter Sam & Max adventure game episodes with great humor and gameplay. I downloaded the demos for PC and now I can’t be more excited about the recently semi-confirmed announcement that they plan on releasing versions for all three consoles, on the systems respective digital distribution services and retail disks.

A good adventure game is one of the things I’ve hoping for since the Wii came out. The remote is better or at least as good as a mouse for adventure games.

Personally, I prefer a disk instead of a download. Whatever Telltale Games decide to do, I’ll buy a disk or download day one. Please take these to the consoles, my PC chair is so uncomfortable.

Big Names Making Big Games For Wii?

This is speculative, and nothing is set in stone - but I would like to get it off my chest anyways. Ive been watching these developments unfold, and I have seen noone make specific mention of them all in one topic of discussion - so I’ll be the first…

Nintendo and Microsoft sueing Sony?

Remember that ‘fact sheet‘ that Sony released which explained the PS3 is cheaper than a 360 Core Pack and the Wii only have free online if you buy it within the first 6 months? Yeah, that was hilarious. Sony sure knows how to entertain. Every time I wake up I get excited just thinking that maybe, just maybe, Phil Harison or Kaz, or some other Sony big wig has made yet another totally awesome comment while I was sleeping.

I totally drew this from memory... sad isn't it?

Well apparently Microsoft and Nintendo weren’t laughing at that one and are sueing the funniest company in the land of the rising sun. Now, I think until some more sites pick up on this I’m going to file this under ‘Rumor’ simply because it just sounds like one. I mean, it’s totally possible, maybe even likely, but who knows. I’m sure if it’s real we’ll hear about it soon.

C64 FOR THE Wii/Win

So I lived through all the emos at Fusion Tour. Yes, I played the Wii and yes, it was good. Look for the full report soon, I promise it’s going to be in-depth than ‘OMG I PLAYED TEH Wii!’. Unfortunately they would not allow my video camera into the building for fear that I would record the concert that was going on that I couldn’t care less about.

Also in the news: Commodore 64 games are coming to Wii virtual console. Why am I happy about this? Well, because Zak McKraken is one of my favorites games of all time, and with my recent experience with the pointing funtional on the Wiimote, it’s absolutely perfect. I don’t think Zak McKraken is announced yet, but I like the possibility.

Any-hoo. I’m freaking tired, standing in lines is hard. I’m going to go die somewhere.
