Ghostbusters Wii Review

Ghostbusters. One of my favorite childhood films, and one that always seemed to have some sort of connection to video games. I clearly remember Super Mario Bros being mentioned in the first movie, and of course in the second movie the Statue of Liberty is controlled by an NES advantage. Like a lot of games, they flirt fantasy with reality. They deal with fantastic and impossible things happening in the identifiable world you live in. I know a lot of kids my age, including myself, in some capacity pretended to be a Ghostbuster. It’s an easily obtainable fantasy, and that’s why the Ghostbusters films have spawned ten video games over the last twenty five years. Unfortunately a vast majority of them aren’t worth mentioning. They failed to capture that light-hearted chaotic essence of Ghostbusters. The new Ghostbusters: The Video Game starts to approach what made the films great.
Atari was kind enough to send me a copy of the Wii version of Ghostbusters last week, so I’m returning the favor with a review. It’s important to note that there are essentially three builds of this game. There’s the 360, PS3, and PC builds which are more realistically styled and more resemble the look of the films. The Wii and PS2 versions are like what I’m reviewing. They have a far more cartoon graphical look to them. Then there’s the DS version which is unique, I do not have a review for that one. The 360/PS3/PC build was created by developer Terminal Reality, while the Wii/PS2/DS versions were developed by Red Fly.
