Wii MotionPlus - Allows 1:1 Motion

E3 presentations are tomorrow, and Nintendo has decided to let some information out to the press early. Since doing 1:1 motions on the Wii remote is difficult (maybe impossible) Nintendo has announced a new plug-in for the controller which I’m thinking adds another set of accelerometers (the little doo-dads that sense motion) into the back.

“Nintendo’s upcoming Wii™ MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote™ controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.”

Sounds awesome! Hopefully this will be reasonably priced (I see no reason why it would cost a bundle) and developers take advantage of it. They’ll demonstrate it tomorrow, and if it works like how it sounds, it’s hats off to the folks in white coats.

The Spiderwick Chronicles (Wii) Review

The Spiderwick Chronicles is being released for multiple platforms to go along with the movie of the same title. Here I will be reviewing the Wii version. Before I do that though, let me say that this is not the type of game I usually play. In fact, I try to avoid most movie-games. The reason for this is that I have never found them to be worth playing. However, Sierra suggested that we look at it anyway. In fact, they went so far as to send us a review copy to preview. How could I not take them up on it? I was assigned the Wii version and was determined to put aside my bias and review the game based on it’s own merits. The results are somewhat surprising.

The Spiderwick Chronicles (DS) Review

I suspect that this month not many of you muscle bound hardcore gamers are going to rush on out to your local GameCrazy and feverishly grab a copy of “The Spiderwick Chronicles” with your vein popping hands of controller crushing death. There’s a reason for that, and despite movie to games adaptions having a reputation of being gaming atrocities, this is surprisingly not the case with Spiderwick.

Just like Ted, I would normally never try out such a game, but since Sierra Entertainment was nice enough send us some copies we’ve decided to review them. Check the results inside.

Advance Wars: Days of Ruin Review

I recently bought the newest installment in one of my favorite franchises for the DS, Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. I didn’t want to write an article on it until I had fully beaten the game. Mostly because I didn’t want to put it down. Now that I have made my way through the game successfully, the review is here.

Title Banner

During this review I won’t talk about the plot in any detail. What I am going to do is link to another article /here later/ that will. Also, I will assume that by now you know that the general setting is post-apocalyptic and the game has been hailed as a darker, more realistic version of it’s predecessors. With that out of the way I want to talk about some basics and then get into things.

Internets Converted to Brawl Spoiler Minefield

Super Smash Bros. Brawl goes on sale in Japan on Thursday and naturally some people have already gotten their hands on copies early, probably though some sort of soul ownership contract.

Why should you care? Well, not only is it another reason to torture those of you who have no patience, but it also means that there’s a flood of information on the game. Information that could easily be call spoilers. So if you’ve been trying to avoid this sort of information watch out… if you CAN. MUW HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

…and no, I don’t have a copy. I have to wait another month just like almost everyone else.
