Virtual Console 104 + WiiWare 31 Update

Well it’s that time of the week again. No, not when you punch your little brother and call him a fag! That’s on Thursdays. Today is Monday, and that means it’s time for me to tell you about what Nintendo told me what the Virtual Console and WiiWare updates are. This week the WiiWare service receives two new games. Strong Bad Episode 5: 8-Bit Is Enough (freaking awesome title) and Big Kahuna Party (a popular symbol matching puzzle game).

The Virtual Console gets one lonely game. Enduro Racer for the Sega Master System. In the arcades Euduro Racer produced a startlingly effective 3D track with bumps and jumps. On the Master System the game now plays in a isometric view to acheive the 3D effect. Not a bad trait I mind you but I thought it nessisary to warn it’s not quite like the arcade version. It’s still a more than compedient racing title though and it’s got some catchy music.

More details inside!

But before you go! Check back with us tomorrow for what we hope will become a standard feature on the site where new writer Will examines and compares classic games to their modern relatives regardless of their technical abilities.

Early Christmas Present - Wack-A-Noel

If you have sharp eyes you may have noticed the new “Game Downloads” section at the left there. If not, take a look. The reason for this new section is that I finally started learning some C++ and about a week or so ago I finished my first real game.

Now this isn’t exactly a deep game, nor is it super complex. Infact it’s pretty simple. Regardless, what it’s done is let me get used to working with the language.

Anyway, after I was done I figured I might as well make this the sort of Christmas Present to Bomb-Omb’s readers. So here you go, a free video game, it’s called “Wack-A-Noel” and it’s probably pretty close to what you think.

You can learn more and download it here!
Thanks to all of Bomb-Omb’s readers for our best year yet and have a Merry Christmas.

Friend Code Lists

Small changes to what everyone loves, friend codes.

Friend Codes

The Friend Code collection has been re-expanded to include game Friend Codes and not just the Wii Console codes. A new forum has been made where all the Friend Code lists will now be located, as opposed to being scattered all over the site.

All the Wii Codes have already been moved over to the new forum.

Also, tonight is the first WAN Party gathering in the Chat Room, so be sure to be there!

Bomb-Omb WAN Party

Rise from your grave!

Back in the earlier days of Bomb-Omb we had this event every weekend where DS Wifi players would get in our chatroom and play Wifi games. Due to technical issues it stopped for almost a year. But now it’s back! With improved… everything. The chat not only runs better, but it’s also compatible with the Wii Opera Browser. It’s also got more shiny! We all love shiny right?

This returning feature comes with a couple of new site enhancements. You’ll now be able to store your Friend Codes in your Forum profiles so you don’t have to keep looking it up.

New look, New features

It’s about time! I just got done finishing up some updates to the site, and that means…

The forums are now up and running! After months of being gone they’re finally back. No need to register if you’ve already got a Bomb-Omb account, just use you normal login information and you’ll be on your way.

You can register either on the main page here (at the top left) or at the forums, they’ll both let you comment and post in the forums.

New look: I also took the time to update the look of the site overall.

There’s only so much testing I can do. Everyone has a different browser and settings. So if you have any problems please send me a message so I can see what I can do about fixing it. Thanks!

Merry Christmas

I promised a fellow named Clever Sleazoid that I would post a wallpaper he made for the site. Since I haven’t made a wallpaper section yet I’m going to exploit him and use his work as a sort of gift to everyone. I’m nice like that!

Oh fine, I’ll throw one in too. I made a really simple wallpaper using the Triforce image I spontaneously drew for my Zelda review. Simple but it works, notice how the background color is the same as what I use for the site. Not slacking at all!

Thanks for the wallpaper, Clever Sleazoid!

Update:
It’s also a Monday, and you know what that means. That’s right, more titles to download on the Virtual Console. This weeks update is probably the best one yet. Observe!

  • Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (Super NES, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): This game revolutionized the fighting-game genre with characters that had unique fighting skills, speed, special moves and unique endings.
  • Super Mario Bros. (NES, 1-2 Players, 500 Wii Points): I’m pretty sure I don’t have to give you much information on this one. He’s Mario, he jumps on things.
  • Super Castlevania IV (Super NES, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): Simon Belmont uses his trusty whip to fight the powers of evil on his way to Dracula’s Castle.
  • Toe Jam & Earl (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): Two fun-loving aliens crash on Earth and must find 10 pieces of their spaceship so they can get back home to Planet Funkotron.
  • R-TYPE (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): This is a completely faithful port - right down to the character details - of the famous shooting-game masterpiece.

Games available on Jan. 1 include:

  • Baseball (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): Play nine innings of fierce sandlot competition with classic NES graphics.
  • Urban Champion (NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): Don’t let the big, bad bully of the neighborhood push you around! Players fight for the right to walk the street.

Whew, hopefully that’s the last of the updates for today. Have fun!

Wii + Zelda = Death of Updates

Woah! There wasn’t a full update yesterday? What in tarnation?! I wonder what could have caused such a thing! … It’s because there’s a Wii and a copy of Zelda sitting about 10 feet from where I write these things..

REGGIE

It calls… with a reverberating voice reminiscent of that of Reggies. “Alex”, it says ” I know you want to go Wiiiiiiiiiiiiii”. I turn, look at that glowing disk slot, notice there’s a message for me to read and say, “I know Reggie, I know… but Reggie, I need to update Bomb-Omb!”. With a smooth pulse of the disk drive is how Reggie demonstrates his dominance. “Enough of that! You can do that later WHEN I’M DONE WITH YOU!” Reggie blares. I clutch the Wiimote tighter uncontrollably, “Yes! You’re right Reggie! You’re always right! Later! I can do it later!” and so the game continues.

By the way, as much as I still love the Red Steel advertising, I think the game needs some fixing. Ubisoft, make it happen. I’ll explain more later. In the meantime, rent it or borrow it to check it out.
Expect to see some neato video features on the Wii soon. Also expect some non-typical ones. I hardly do this stuff till the last minute so here’s your chance to influence my tiny mind! Tell me what you would like to know or see demonstrated and I’ll be sure to include it in the video, just for you! Leave a comment or send it in on the Contact Page!

“ALEX!”
“Yes! I’m sorry Reggie!”

If you need to send us something that’s bigger than 10MB send us a message so we can arrange a way to get that done.

Progress

Forums are not up, but currently there are only 2 boards, Gaming and General. Feel free to use it. It’s now totally working. It’s a bit basic at the moment but it’s defineately working.

Three of the old articles have been uploaded and formatted to work with the new design and the rest will come. Don’t worry Gaming Age Attack will make a return.

Still havn’t touched the Game Reviews yet, sit tight. That’s one of the more complicated sections to intergrate into the redesign. I’ll try to get it working.

As always, feel free to comment or contact me with errors, problems, ideas, or suggestions.
