WiiWare Update 10

So what’s new for the WiiWare library? Well… uhhh.. Well Pirtates: The Key of Dreams is new. But I can’t tell you anything about it other than I’m just not feeling this one.

Also press release…
Pirates: The Key of Dreams (Oxygen Games, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone-Mild Violence, 1,000 Wii Points): Pirates: The Key of Dreams is a frantic nautical shoot-’em-up. Virtual Console Update 83

Hey everyone! Something new worth downloading on the VC! Well. Probably only worth downloading if you’re familiar with Fantasy Zone actually.

The additions to the VC library this week are Super Fantasy Zone for the Sega Genesis, and Gley Lancer, also for the Genesis.

Actually I never played or little of either one of these, not having a Genesis and all. I’ve heard people praise Fantasy Zone before so SUPER Fantasy Zone should be SUPER awesome right? Well maybe it is, someone will have to tell me. More detail inside.

E3 2008

This year I’m going to try to group all the new stuff into one large post.IGN has a free live video stream of the event here so check it out - IGN Press Conference Live Stream

 Announcements:
Animal Crossing: City Folk shown. Features a special microphone sensor bar for room to room voice communication called “Wii Speak”.

Wii MotionPlus demonstrated. Shows three games for Wii Sports Resort which use MotionPlus, Disk Throwing, Jet Ski, and best of all Sword
Dueling (sword dueling = sold by the way, looks like it works perfectly). A MotionPlus plug-in will come packaged with Wii Sports Resort as well as being sold separately. No price was given, but expect Wii Play prices.
New Guitar Hero for DS shown, is compatible with Guitar Hero on Tour even to the point of playing each others songs.

Spore Creature for DS shown (think Pokemon in a way but with Spore designing)

New Call of Duty for Wii shown, looks like a major improvement over previous Wii shooter titles. Allows for extra players to assist in single player. Also supports the Wii Zapper shell.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for DS announced. (Very little details except that it’s free roaming)

Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party shown. Looks like it’s had an engine rehual with new games (of course). Supports Wii Balance Board.

Star Wars Clone Wars shown motion controlled light saber game. Can’t tell if it actually use the MotionPlus or not (I suspect not actually)

Wii Music has still continued development and will be out this year.
Other news: The teams for Zelda and Mario are both working on what are apparently “core” gamer titles.

Well that’s it for the presentation. Honestly it wasn’t what I was hoping for, “core game” so to speak. Reggie and Iwata continue to be the highlights and my favorite announcement is the MotionPlus with the Sword Dueling game. E3 isn’t over though. So maybe… MAYBE… there’s still hope.

Wii MotionPlus - Allows 1:1 Motion

E3 presentations are tomorrow, and Nintendo has decided to let some information out to the press early. Since doing 1:1 motions on the Wii remote is difficult (maybe impossible) Nintendo has announced a new plug-in for the controller which I’m thinking adds another set of accelerometers (the little doo-dads that sense motion) into the back.

“Nintendo’s upcoming Wii™ MotionPlus accessory for the revolutionary Wii Remote™ controller again redefines game control, by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in a 3-D space. The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player’s arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion. Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo’s commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone. Nintendo will reveal more details about the Wii MotionPlus accessory and other topics Tuesday morning at its E3 media briefing.”

Sounds awesome! Hopefully this will be reasonably priced (I see no reason why it would cost a bundle) and developers take advantage of it. They’ll demonstrate it tomorrow, and if it works like how it sounds, it’s hats off to the folks in white coats.

Virtual Console Update 82

Lookity that. It’s the classic game Donkey Kong 3 for the NES. No kids, it’s not Donkey Kong COUNTRY 3, that didn’t come out for a long whiles later. This is OLD-SCHOOL. I sterilized so many apes with DDT back in the day.

Also added to the VC library is NINJA COMMANDO for the NEOGEO. A vertical shooter where Ninjas stop being so sneaky and fill the air with explosives.

Sound good? Check the details inside.

WiiWare Update 9

I think I’ll just let the Press Release do this one.

“The ultimate chomp-off is about to begin. Grab your Wii Remote™ controller and dig into 12 different foods as you compete against the greatest major-league eaters in the world. This isn’t just a race to stuff your face-you’ll need strategy to master a smorgasbord of digestive attacks, defenses and counters. These include the Mega Burp, Gas Attack, Antacid and more. And don’t forget to keep an eye on your Barf-O-Meter, because if the food hits the plate twice, you’re out. Unlock more than 10 characters in single-player career mode, go gut-to-gut against your friends in versus mode, or compete online using Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection. Online play supports friend codes, random matchmaking and leader boards.”

There. Now it’s done.

Wario Land Shake It!

There’s one genre of games that I love without question, and that’s old school platformers. WiiFolder has an incredible trailer for Wario Land Shake It! for the Wii that look absolutely incredible. The game is played NES style with the Wii Remote on its side, the buttons I’m sure you can figure out what does what but the motion controls actually look well thought out (from a combination of the controls themselves and the animation of Wario). Speaking of the animation it looks like all the sprites are hand animated. 2D platformers are mildly rare now, especially on consoles, but hand animated sprite in 2D platformers are even more rare, and even more incredible looking when done right.
Whoever is funding and managing this project deserves Wario money bags full of cash. Now I wonder what a 2D Metroid game would be like if it was drawn like that!… Get on that.

WiiWare Update 8

I don’t know what to think about this one. SPOGS Racing is obviously a racing game, but you’re racing wheels with little faces inside? I watched a trailer on the games site which didn’t feature how the controls were done on the Wii. It also said that this is available on PSP and for the PC sometime soon. Maybe I’m being too hard on it. If someone checks this out feel free to tell us about it in the comments or you could even write a full blown review. Even if it sucks though, I can tell it better than some racing games I’ve played recently. I can just tell ok?

More details on SPOGS Racing inside.

Virtual Console Update 81

If you were waking up to see what Nintendo might have suprise launched on this ‘almost 4th of July’ Monday go back to bed. Sometimes Nintendo does infact do stuff like that in the US region, but not this time! That’s what makes it a suprise when it happens right?

Well this week is a bit of a snooze. Today the VC gets King of Monsters for the NEOGEO added to its library.

I vaguely remember this one actually. It’s basically a fighting game with Godzilla like monsters fighting in a city! I mean, what can go wrong? Actually I have no idea, I don’t remember it well enough to tell you if it was any good or not. Some help I am. However I can provide you with a 1 paragraph description inside!

Chrono Trigger Coming to DS

After a mysterious countdown on an equally mysterious website that Square Enix put up last night, it’s finally confirmed. The 1995 classic Chrono Trigger is coming to the Nintendo DS. Apart from WiFi functionality, unspecified touch-screen features, and a new dungeon, it seems that the game will be largely the same as the original release.

Chrono Trigger had been re-released only once before, on Playstation, as a part of Final Fantasy Chronicles.

I, for one, am extremely excited about this. I owned Chrono Trigger back in the day, and next to Final Fantasy 6(3 US), it was my favorite SNES RPG. Square Enix also has a good track record when it comes to spicing up their games for remakes, so I can’t wait what they produce for Chrono Trigger.

RPGFan has the press release, so go check it out.
